Minister's Message

On behalf of this congregation, I want to welcome you to our website. I know it can be intimidating to walk through the doors of a church where you do not know anyone or what kind of church it is.   I hope looking at our website will give you some clues about who we are and what we value.

As the pastor here for 5 years, here are some of the things that I have come to believe characterize this church:
  • We are a church that values tradition. We seek the insights of the Bible and how it speaks to the complexities of our lives. We take it seriously but not literally. We value the historical traditions of the two denominations that make up this United Parish and the deep commitments to issues of social justice that each of them has had. We don’t tell people what to believe, but seek to help them find the faith they need.
  • We are a congregation that values our intergenerational community.   We delight in our children and our growing Sunday School. Whether you are 4 or 104, you will find the support you need to grow in faith and to cope with the ups and downs of life.
  • We are a congregation that is committed to reaching out to the larger community whether it be our Auburndale community, the greater Newton community, or the metro Boston community. We reach out with a substantial portion of our budget each year to support other organizations, but we also reach out with our time and our talents. We are committed to being an inclusive community.
I hope this gives you a small glimpse into the character of this congregation. It is a special place and I hope you will come see for yourself.

Faithfully,
Jean Alexander
